Fuel prices and a concern for the environment are driving many commuters to seek alternative ways to save money at the pump, conserve non-renewable fossil fuels and reduce emissions that threaten the air we breathe, and mopeds are one way to do all of these things. Most major cities in the U.S., as well as many small to medium size cities, face EPA penalties due to the air quality. The quality of the air we breathe is directly related to the emissions of our vehicles and other industrial pollutants. Though we ourselves can do little about some of these problems, we can control how much we pollute the air during our daily commuting.

The average consumer spends about $2,000 per year on fuel to get to and from work every day at the current national average of $3.22 per gallon of gas. While most couples and families need a car, van or truck for family outings, our daily commute is one area where most of us could save a great deal of money. Imagine having an extra $100 to $160 per week in your pocket. By reducing the amount of fuel you buy each week, you can.

Mopeds save a considerable amount of fuel, and this alone makes them an environmentally-friendly alternative to gas-powered cars. A great deal of emissions are eliminated since less fuel is consumed. Add to this the factor of convenience, and these vehicles become an excellent choice for environmentally-conscious commuters. It is far easier to find a parking spot with such a small vehicle, and you can go more places in a moped than you can in a regular passenger vehicle.

These money savers are also excellent choices for students. Students are chronically low on cash, need to commute to class and perhaps work regularly and need to be able to park on lawns or where bicycles are kept in order to get to class on time. Parking is notoriously hard to come by on a college campus, but there is almost always a safe parking area for bicycles and other small, two-wheel vehicles. And the cost of a new moped is within reach of most students that would otherwise have to settle for a very used car.

Saving the environment will not happen overnight; it will happen slowly with one consumer choice at a time. This is one situation where the eco-friendly decision is also the most economical decision for the consumer.
